Description of Duties: An individual in this role is responsible for serving as the official legally accountable Clerk to the County Board and for providing staff management support as an Assistant to the County Manager. Coordinates all administrative functions in the Manager’s Office. Responsible for the maintenance and safekeeping of official public records. Work involves the responsibility for keeping the minutes of Board meetings and for publication, indexing, filing and safekeeping of Board proceedings in accordance with general statutes and county ordinances, and interpretation of policies. Work includes supervising administrative staff performing receptionist or support duties for the Manager and other departments. Employee develops and administers a variety of programs in cooperation with management. Work also includes providing administrative support to the Manager and the County Board members, handling budget, purchase orders and updating policies. Considerable tact, courtesy, and firmness are required in dealing with the public. Work is performed in accordance with North Carolina General Statutes and standard office procedures governing the responsibilities of Clerks. Works under the supervision of the County Manager and is legally accountable for work to the County Board.
Minimum Training and Experience: Graduation from a two year business school or community college with a major in business or secretarial science and considerable responsible experience in office management, preferably including some experience in the safekeeping and care of public records and employee benefits, safety and/or risk management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. and Board of Commissioners meetings
