Notice of Public Hearing - Request by Millers Creek Fire Department for Fire Tax Rate Increase

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 

ON REQUEST BY 

MILLERS CREEK VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, INC.

FOR FIRE TAX RATE INCREASE 

IN FISCAL YEAR 2020-2021 BUDGET  



PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that Wilkes County, in connection with development of the budget for Fiscal Year 2020-2021, has received a budget request from Millers Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., for an increase in the fire tax rate from $0.07 to $0.10 in Millers Creek Fire Tax District.


THE WILKES COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS (hereinafter “the Board of Commissioners”) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 5:45 P.M. in the Meeting Room at the Wilkes County Agricultural Center located at 416 Executive Drive, Wilkesboro, North Carolina, for the purpose of receiving comments on the foregoing fire tax rate increase request.  Pursuant to authorization under the Policy for Attendance at Wilkes County Commissioners’ Meetings adopted by the Board of Commissioners on April 7, 2020, and Session Law 2020-3 adopted by the North Carolina General Assembly on May 4, 2020, said public hearing will be conducted remotely and physical attendance by members of the public will not be allowed.  However, the public hearing will be open to the public as set forth below.

 

Further, pursuant to authorization under Session Law 2020-3 adopted by the North Carolina General Assembly on May 4, 2020, comments on the foregoing fire tax rate increase request may be submitted at any time between the initial publication of this Notice and twenty-four (24) hours following the conclusion of the public hearing.  All public comments must be in writing and must be submitted by one of three methods:  by U. S. mail, by email, or by hand-delivery to the Wilkes County Office Building.

IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, WRITTEN COMMENTS MUST BE FROM PERSONS WHO ARE RESIDENTS OF OR OWNERS OF TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN MILLERS CREEK FIRE TAX DISTRICT AND MUST INCLUDE THE NAME, ADDRESS, AND TELEPHONE NUMBER OF THE PERSON(S) COMMENTING.


The public hearing in this matter will be open to the public via WebEx.  All media and/or members of the public that would like to attend will be able to do so via WebEx.  The link for WebEx is available below and can be found on the Wilkes County website www.wilkescounty.net under the “Meeting Calendar” tab, then by selecting “Commissioners Meeting,” and then by selecting the “Meeting Instructions” link.


To connect by computer, go to https://wilkescounty.webex.com.  In the “Join a Meeting” field, enter the event Access Code 712 812 523.  You will then be prompted to enter your First Name, Last Name, Email address, and the Event password:  wcbc.  For audio, you can select whether you wish to receive the audio through your computer or through your telephone and if you would like WebEx to call you back with the audio connection.  If you would like a call-back, enter your phone number.
