Currently there is no vaccination for prevention of tuberculosis (TB). People who have been exposed to someone with active tuberculosis may become infected, and not be actively sick, nor are they contagious. Those individuals are encouraged to take antibiotics to reduce the likelihood that they will develop active tuberculosis later, when circumstances may reduce their immune system’s ability to contain the infection. Those efforts are helping us to see a reduction in the number of cases of active TB in North Carolina. However, TB continues to be extremely contagious and requires public awareness to reduce its spread.Health Department - Tests, Screenings & Vaccinations
