Act Locally to Affect Globally Poster Contest!

The Wilkes County Litter Committee is excited to announce the Wilkes County 2026 ‘Act Locally to Affect Globally’ Wilkes poster contest to help promote litter awareness throughout Wilkes County!

Contestants are to produce a 22X28 inch poster that focuses on the Earth Day theme “Act Locally to Affect Globally” The contest is available to all Wilkes County 4th grade students. It begins today (Feb. 6th, 2026) and runs through Mar 18th, 2026. Committee members will collect all posters from each public and private school as well as the Wilkes County Public Library.

One submission per student. Posters must be hand drawn, no pictures of commercial origin are permitted.

Each participant will receive a FREE Litter Committee t-shirt!

Judges will be looking for originality and Wilkes County appeal.

The winning participant will be awarded a pizza party for their entire class.

The winner will be chosen and contacted April 2nd, 2026. Posters will be published in the Journal Patriot, displayed online and at the Wilkes County Landfill.

The winner and their poster will be recognized at the May 4th, 2026 School Board Meeting and at the May 5th, 2025 Commissioners Meeting.

Inspiration Info:

The library has 35 copies available through NC Cardinal. Once requested it will take 10 days or the DVD to arrive. These may be borrowed using a personal library card. Media Specialist may be contacted at each school to verify that no copyright laws will be violated by showing the movie.
